Northern Illinois beats Toledo 35-17

    Northern Illinois beat Toledo 35-17 to win the Mid-American Conference West division title.

    Toledo turned the ball over four times for the second year in a row against the Huskies. Quarterback Terrance Owens had a fumble and two interceptions.

    NIU scored the final 21 points, on runs by Jordan Lynch (31, 1 yards) and James Spencer (1 yard).

     

    THIRD QUARTER

    Northern Illinois leads Toledo 21-17 after three quarters.

    NIU quarterback Jordan Lynch had two rushing touchdowns in the quarter, on runs of 12 and 31 yards.

    The Rockets scored on a 36-yard TD hook up from Terrance Owens to Bernard Reedy.

     

    HALFTIME

    Toledo leads 10-7 at halftime despite turning the ball over three times.

    Terrance Owens found Alonzo Russell on a 45-yard hook up with 51 seconds to go.

    NIU's Mathew Sims has missed three field goals, including from 47 yards before halftime.

    UT's Kareem Hunt threw an interception in the end zone on third-and-goal from the 2 for the Rockets' third turnover.

     

    FIRST QUARTER

    Northern Illinois leads Toledo 7-3 after one quarter at the Glass Bowl.

    Rockets quarterback Terrance Owens has committed two turnovers — a fumble on the first play of the game, and an interception at NIU's 22.

    NIU turned the fumble into a touchdown on a 19-yard by James Spencer.
