Sylvestre takes home top Toledo honor

Linebacker Junior Sylvestre was presented with the Jim Nicholson Award at the University of Toledo football banquet on Sunday. The Nicholson Award is given annually to the player most contributing to the team's success and is considered the team's most prestigious award. It is voted on by the players.

Sylvestre was named first-team All-MAC and led the Rockets with 118 tackles. He ranks third in the league with 9.8 tackles per game.

Center Zac Kerin was named offensive MVP, and end Jayrone Elliott was named defensive MVP.

Jeremiah Detmer, the MAC special teams player of the year, earned special teams MVP.

Other winners were Kareem Hunt and Treyvon Hester (freshmen), Ethan Kagy (walk-on), Elliott (community service), Matt Wall (senior scholar), Christian Smith (legacy), Nate Jeppesen, Randy Swift, and Josh High (scout team), David Fluellen (leadership), and Greg Mancz, Chase Murdock, and Matt Wall (unsung).
