UT’s Brown, BG’s Rogers, Halfhill are All-MAC

The University of Toledo men and the Bowling Green State University women had a good day Monday without playing a game.

On the same day BG cracked the top 25 of the Associated Press women’s basketball poll for the first time since March of 2009, the Falcons placed seniors Alexis Rogers and Jillian Halfhill on the All-Mid-American Conference first team selections. The Falcons are ranked No. 25.

Rogers (14.9 points, 8.2 rebound) was named All-MAC all three years she played at BG and twice was first team. Halfill (13.3 points, 3.2 assists) is a first-time honoree.

Toledo appeared on each of the five MAC men’s teams: first team (Julius Brown), second team (Rian Pearson), third team (Justin Drummond), honorable mention (J.D. Weatherspoon) and freshman (Jonathan Williams).

Regular-season champion UT plays at 9 p.m. in Friday’s MAC men’s tournament semifinal at Quicken Loans Arena. BG women, also regular-season champion, will play at noon Friday.

Joining Brown on the men’s first team were Western Michigan's David Brown and Shayne Whittington, Akron's Demetrius Treadwell, and Buffalo's Javon McCrea.

BG’s Richaun Holmes was on the third team.

UT’s Brown ranks sixth in MAC scoring (14.8) and first in assists (6.3). He was the MAC freshman of the year two seasons ago and a third-team pick last year.

Pearson was named All-MAC for the third time.

UT’s Inma Zanoguera (second team) and Andola Dortch (third team) were selected to the women’s team. BG’s Erica Donovan was honorable mention.

Also on the first team were Central Michigan’s Crystal Bradford, and Akron’s Hanna Luburgh and Rachel Tecca.

Bradford ripped the two-year reign Dortch held as the league's defensive player of the year. CMU's Taylor Johnson was named sixth player of the year.
