Sports mailbox: Not all Storm fans want a new arena

4/10/2005

Sports Editor:

Mark Monroe's article ("It's unanimous, Storm fans want new arena") was not only misleading. It was wrong. He should make a retribution.

I was at the Sports Arena on Good Friday and had a sign that read Long Live the Sports Arena and when I showed it to different sections of the stands, people either applauded, nodded their heads with approval, or gave a thumbs up.

By the way, at that same game I talked to a group of Dayton fans who come up every time they play here because the atmosphere is so great. They said they have a new arena down there and hate it. They said even with 4,500 people attending, it has the feel of a library.

The headline and article were totally irresponsible.

This is in reference to the article on Ohio State thinking that appeared March 30.

Coach [Jim] Tressel, is this another here we go again - or just a newspaper story?

It seems lately that the OSU football program starts out talking national championship before the first ball is in the air for a new season.

Why don't you promote Big Ten championships first, and if that happens, the rest will take care of itself.

Yes, your last two games last season were well played, and you deserved to win them, but two games do not make a season, unless beating Michigan is the only game the Buckeyes care about. An 8-4 record and tied for fifth in the Big Ten is not the best indicator of OSU football.

Let's get back to thinking about one game at a time. Let's win it all this year, then shoot our mouths off telling people how good we are.
