Toledo Storm officials unveiled a new logo yesterday commemorating the organization s 15th anniversary.

The new logo will be featured as a shoulder patch worn on players jerseys.

The current crest, which features a lightning bolt and a hockey stick, will remain the same. The anniversary emblem also will be displayed prominently at center ice. It will be featured on

merchandise items such as Tshirts, hats, sweatshirts and other

novelty items.

A lot of teams have come and gone in this league over the last 15

years, said Storm general manager and vice president Mike Miller,

who estimated that 30 teams have left the ECHL in that time frame.

We ve had changes in staff, players and coaches, but the bottom line is that the Storm will be competing in its 15th season.

The logo was designed by the company Thread, which is based in Maumee. It is the fi rst the company has devised for a sports organization, according to John Snider, the company s creative director. He said the emblem was chosen from about 21 that Thread proposed.

Miller said the 15th anniversary logo could serve as a precursor

to a change in the team s offi cial trademark. That logo has been voted the worst in all of professional hockey by the Hockey News on several occasions.

The Storm would have to notify ECHL offi cials by Nov. 1 if it wishes to put a new crest in place for the 2006-07 season.

We re giving it some thought, Miller said.

The Storm started play in the ECHL in the 1991-92 season and has won two playoff championships.
