Storm stops Charlotte

CHARLOTTE - The Toledo Strom knocked off the Charlotte Checkers 5-2 last night in ECHL play.

The Checkers opened the scoring at 10:07 of the first period when Daymen Rycroft jumped on a rebound and slid it past Storm goaltender Dominic Vicari.

Toledo tied it at 1 at 11:13 of the first when Gerry Burke scored his fifth goal of the year past. Mike Walsh made a nifty pass from the Checkers blue line to set up Burke. Jeff Attard also assisted.

Charlotte went up 2-1 at 17:14 when Blake Bellefeullie pounced on a loose puck and lifted it past Vicari.

The Storm took over in the second period. Chris Blight scored at 4:53, tipping PJ Martin's blue line shot past Chris Holt to tie the game at 2. Burke collected an assist.

Blight scored again, his 14th of the season, when took a pass from Bruce Mulherin and went in on a breakaway.

The Storm went up 4-2 when Tim Songin, playing as a forward, took a pass from Blight and his one-timer ripped past Holt.

Mike Walsh capped the scoring with an even strength goal, his 11th of the year, at 18:35 of the third. Nick Parillo and Jeff Attard set up Walsh.
