Walleye's Sawyer all-star captain

Toledo Walleye defenseman J.C. Sawyer has been named captain of the American Conference in tonight's ECHL all-star game.

Sawyer leads the Walleye with 38 points. The native of St. John, N.B., has scored 17 goals and has 21 assists with six game-winning goals.

The ECHL all-star game is being held in Ontario, Calif. The puck drops at 10 p.m.

Sawyer, 23, will be joined by Walleye forward Maxime Tanguay.

Tanguay, a 20-year-old from Quebec, leads the Walleye with 24 assists. He also has 13 goals. Tanguay is the younger brother of Alex Tanguay of the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning.

The all-star game will be shown on BCSN.

The Walleye (23-13-4) have won six straight and taken sole possession of first place in the North Division with a 5-4 overtime win against Johnstown on Sunday. Toledo is back in action at Lucas County Arena on Friday versus Elmira.
