2/8/2010

CHARLOTTE - Charlotte bombarded Walleye goaltender Jordan Pearce with 50 shots yesterday on the way to a 5-1 ECHL victory.

The Checkers outshot Toledo 17-5 in the first 20 minutes for a 2-0 lead.

"Charlotte came out flying today, and we couldn't match their intensity," Walleye coach Nick Vitucci said. "Jordan Pearce kept us in the game, but we couldn't muster any offense today."

Pearce finished with 45 saves.

Toledo's only goal game at 9:14 of the second period when Chris Robertson tapped in a rebound for his 12th goal of the season.

JC Sawyer fed a pass to Derek Nesbitt at the top of the right circle, and Nesbitt's shot deflected to Robertson.

Toledo is 25-19-1-3 on the season, and 9-9-1-2 on the road.

Julien Brouillette and Matt Schepke each scored two goals for Charlotte, Cedric Lalonde-McNicholl added the other.

The Checkers were three for seven on power plays.

After six straight road games, the Walleye will play at home at 7 p.m. Friday against Cincinnati.
