Peralta leads Walleye to win

CINCINNATI - Toledo forward Sal Peralta scored twice, including the game-winner, to help the Walleye earn two crucial points with a 3-2 road win over Cincinnati last night.

Toledo (33-26-6) trailed 2-1 entering the third period, but then scored on two of eight shots in the final period. Peralta tallied his second of the night for the game-winner with

7:43 left.

Forward Tony Romano, who was acquired in a trade last week, tied the game with a wrist shot 6:12 into the third period.

Goalie Jordan Pearce got a second straight win in as many nights against Cincinnati, finishing with 33 saves.

Toledo was outshot 35-20, including 29-12 over the first two periods.

"They came after us hard in the first period," Toledo coach Nick Vitucci. "We knew they would come out fired up tonight. Jordan put together one of his best games keeping us in it."

The Walleye scored first as Peralta tallied a power play goal 8:12 into the contest to tie it at 1.

Peralta deflected Joe Charlebois' shot past Jeremy Smith (17 saves).

Brett Robinson opened the scoring for the Cyclones just 1:07 into the game.

Scott Reynolds scored the lone goal of the second period to give the Cyclones a 2-1 lead.

But Toledo improved to 8-3-0 against the first-place Cyclones.

The Walleye remain one point ahead of Reading and six points in front of Wheeling for the seventh seed in the playoffs.
