Walleye score early, shut out Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -The Toledo Walleye started fast with three goals in the first period and went on to hammer the Kalamazoo Wings 8-0 on Saturday. Toledo is 4-5-1-1 on the season and 2-1-1-0 on the road.

Toledo exploded in the first period with three goals on 10 shots. The first coming from defenseman Kyle Page as his wrist shot from the top of the left circle beat Ryan Nie at 3:57.

Torquato then collected his team leading fourth goal of the year at 7:01.

Forward Andy Bohmbach then capitalized on a short breakaway by beating Nie to the glove side for his third goal of the season at 9:50. .

Goaltender Scott Campbell stopped all 11 of the Wings shots in the first.

Peter Leblanc scored the lone Walleye goal of the second period.

Evan Rankin scored twice in the third period and Toledo added goals from Andy Bohmbach, and Sebastien Piche to complete the rout.

Toledo is home Sunday for a 4 p.m. game against Cincinnati.
