WHEELING, W. Va. — Despite outshooting Wheeling Wednesday night, the Toledo Walleye couldn't solve Nailers goaltender Peter Delmas more than once.

Delmas stopped 36 shots as the Nailers beat Toledo 3-1 as the ECHL playoffs loom with Toledo on the outside, looking in.

"It was two desperate hockey teams battling for 60 minutes and I thought we dominated for much of it.," said coach Nick Vitucci. "Delmas was terrific and that was the difference."

Toledo outshot Wheeling 37-24, but only Sebastien Piche scored a late tally for the Walleye (29-29-5) after Wheeling had led 3-0.

Tyler Doig and Jason Lepin assisted on the lone tally.

The Walleye outshot Wheeling 17-2 in the third period, but only came away with the one goal.

Walleye goaltender Thomas McCollum made 21 saves, falling to 8-7-1 this season.

The Walleye are home Friday night, taking on the South Carolina Stingrays, 7 p.m. at the Huntington Center.
