Walleye win season-high third-straight game

The Toledo Walleye erupted for three goals over the final six minutes of the second period on Sunday afternoon and went on a to post a 6-3 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones.

The Walleye trailed 2-1 with 5:47 left in the middle period when Simon Danis-Pepin tied it. Bryan Rufenach then gave Toledo the lead with a power play goal and Adam Estoclet made it 4-2 with 41 seconds left in the second period.

Evan Rankin scored twice for Toledo (6-8-0) as the Walleye won a season-high third straight game before a crowd of 3,859 at the Huntington Center. Joey Martin added an empty net goal with 39 seconds left for the final margin.

Walleye goalie Carter Hutton (5-5-0) was solid and at times spectacular, finishing with 32 saves as he also won his third consecutive game.

Toledo also pulled ahead of the Cyclones (4-6-2) in the ECHL North Division and are now third.

Rankin leads Toledo in goals with 10 goals and in points with 18.

The Walleye host Florida on Wednesday.
