Ex-Walleye Torquato sinks former teammates

WHEELING, W. Va. -- Former Toledo Walleye forward Zach Torquato scored 23 seconds into overtime to stretch Toledo's losing streak to six with a 3-2 overtime win on Wednesday night in the first meeting between the Walleye and Nailers this season in front of 2,183 fans at Wesbanco Arena.

Torquato also assisted on the game-tying goal in the third period by Peter Lenes with 9:52 left in the contest.

Rob Nolan made 29 saves for the Walleye (13-19-1) as Toledo lost the lead in both the second and third period.

Wheeling outshot Toledo 32-26 for the game.

Paul Zanette tallied his third goal of the season in the second with assists from Joey Martin and Kyle Page to give the Walleye a 1-0 lead 6:55 into the stanza.

Matt Lombardi tied the game a little more than four minutes later.

Martin took a feed from Zanette to put Toledo up 2-1 with 10:20 left in the period for his ninth of the year, but Nolan surrendered the tying goal 28 seconds later before the teams headed to overtime.

The Walleye went 0-for-3 on the power play while they held the Nailers (20-12-1) to 0-for-2 with the man advantage.

Wheeling goaltender Peter Delmas made 24 saves to pick up the victory.
