Greenville, S.C. — A five-goal third period blasted out by Greenville sunk the Toledo Walleye in a 8-3 loss at the BI-LO Center on Friday night.
Toledo (22-24-4) had erased a 3-1 deficit in the second period with a pair of power play goals by Harrison Reed and Mike Thomas 16 seconds apart.
“This is one of the best offensive teams that we will play all season long,” said coach Nick Vitucci. “We stressed defensive zone coverage, and being very physical.
“We did that for 40 minutes and let them get going in the third period.”
Joey Ryan also scored while Kyle Rogers had three assists and Joey Martin had two assists.
Walleye goaltender Alec Richards finished with 21 saves and took the loss while Dustin Carlson made 10 saves after coming into the game with 11:21 left.
Greenville’s Justin Bowers led the way offensively with two goals and two assists.
