The Toledo Walleye signed two defensemen today that are expected to bring toughness and tenacity to the team.

Defensemen Cody Lampl and David Starenky agreed to terms with the Walleye for the upcoming season.

Lampl, 26, has appeared in 153 games as a pro and has racked up 195 penalty minutes. He also has 40 assists in those games but has scored only two goals. Lampl played last season for Utah of the ECHL, posting 13 points and 98 penalty minutes in 50 games.

“Cody is a solid defenseman in his own zone and he has a very high competition level,” Walleye coach Nick Vitucci said. “He is a proven defenseman at this level and will be a great asset in front of our net.”

Lampl, a native of Ketchum, Idaho, has played four seasons in the ECHL with Las Vegas, Idaho, and Utah.
