The Toledo Walleye and the ECHL announced today that Fifth Third Field will host an outdoor hockey game on Dec. 27, 2014, as part of the Toledo Walleye Winterfest.

The outdoor game will be the first in ECHL history and will be part of the 10-day Winterfest, which will include public skating on an outdoor rink that will stretch from the stadium's first base line to the third base line, as well as youth hockey games, high school hockey games and broomball tournaments.

ProMedica Toledo Hospital is the primary sponsor of the event, which ECHL commissioner Brian McKenna will take two years to plan, in conjunction with the Walleye.

An opponent has not yet been scheduled for the Walleye, and ticket sales will be announced at a later date.
