FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The Toledo Walleye used their power play effectively, scoring two man-advantage goals to top host Fort Wayne on Friday night, picking up a 2-1 win in front of 7,303 fans at Memorial Coliseum.

The victory for Toledo (7-6-1) is its third in its last four games, pulling the Walleye into a tie for second place with the Komets (7-4-1) in the North Division. Both teams trail division leader Cincinnati by three points (8-3-2).

The teams were at a 0-0 standstill until early in the third period when Terry Broadhurst notched his second goal of the season 52 seconds into the frame after Fort Wayne goalie Ken Reiter was whistled for slashing with 26 seconds left in the second period.

Joey Martin tallied a second Walleye power-play goal three minutes and 19 seconds later to stake Toledo to a 2-0 lead.

Fort Wayne’s Colin Chaulk scored with less than two minutes remaining in the game to cut the Walleye lead in half but the Komets could not solve Toledo’s Jordan Pearce again.

Pearce made 29 saves to pick up the win. Reiter stopped 30 shots in the loss.
