Walleye get back to winning ways

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Third pe­riod goals by Wil­lie Coet­zee and An­drej Nestra­sil led Toledo to a 4-2 win over host Fort Wayne on Satur­day.

The win keeps the Wall­eye (10-7-1) one point be­hind North Divi­sion lead­ers Cin­cin­nati. It’s the sixth win out of the last eight con­tests for Toledo.

Terry Broad­hurst and Luke Glen­den­in­g e­ach scored a goal to help Toledo build a 2-1 lead af­ter the first two pe­ri­ods.

For Glen­den­ing, it was his 10th goal of the sea­son in just 18 games.

Broad­hurst added two as­sists in the win along with his first-pe­riod goal while By­ron Froese added two as­sists as well.

The Wall­eye cap­i­tal­ized on their power-play op­por­tu­ni­ties, go­ing 2-for-4 with the man-ad­van­tage. They were strong when short­handed, hold­ing Fort Wayne 0-for-3 on the power play.

The Wall­eye out­shot Fort Wayne 27-25 as Jor­dan Pearce got his fourth win of the sea­son for Toledo, stop­ping 23 shots.

Char­lie Effin­ger had 23 saves in the loss for the Komets (8-7-1).

Two fights broke out dur­ing the con­test be­tween the ri­vals. Toledo’s Joey Ryan and Daniel Mag­gio squared off early in the game while it was Fort Wayne’s Tyler But­ler and Joey Mar­tin get­ting into a tan­gle in the sec­ond pe­riod.
