FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Third period goals by Willie Coetzee and Andrej Nestrasil led Toledo to a 4-2 win over host Fort Wayne on Saturday.
The win keeps the Walleye (10-7-1) one point behind North Division leaders Cincinnati. It’s the sixth win out of the last eight contests for Toledo.
Terry Broadhurst and Luke Glendening each scored a goal to help Toledo build a 2-1 lead after the first two periods.
For Glendening, it was his 10th goal of the season in just 18 games.
Broadhurst added two assists in the win along with his first-period goal while Byron Froese added two assists as well.
The Walleye capitalized on their power-play opportunities, going 2-for-4 with the man-advantage. They were strong when shorthanded, holding Fort Wayne 0-for-3 on the power play.
The Walleye outshot Fort Wayne 27-25 as Jordan Pearce got his fourth win of the season for Toledo, stopping 23 shots.
Charlie Effinger had 23 saves in the loss for the Komets (8-7-1).
Two fights broke out during the contest between the rivals. Toledo’s Joey Ryan and Daniel Maggio squared off early in the game while it was Fort Wayne’s Tyler Butler and Joey Martin getting into a tangle in the second period.
