Toledo Walleye skate by Fort Wayne Komets 5-2

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Max Campbell scored a hat trick, Kyle Rogers added the other two goals, and the Toledo Walleye notched a 5-2 win against the Komets on Thursday night.

Rogers scored the first goals of the second period, when the Walleye (17-12-1) exploded for four as a team to lead 4-0. Campbell scored the Walleye’s third and fourth goals, then posted the hat trick in the third on an unassisted goal with 14 minutes, 14 seconds to play.

Garrett Klotz and Josh Brittain scored the goals for Fort Wayne (14-13-1).

Willie Coetzee finished with three assists for Toledo. Ben Youds, Joey Martin and Wes O’Neill also had assists.

Kent Simpson made 24 saves on 26 shots for the Walleye. Fort Wayne goalie Ken Reiter finished with 34 saves on 39 shots.

The Walleye had lost back-to-back games Dec. 21-22 at Greenville. Toledo will host Cincinnati at 7:05 p.m. today and Kalamazoo at 7:05 p.m. Saturday.
