Toledo Walleye rally to tie with 2 goals in 3rd, lose 5-4 in overtime at Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Walleye rallied furiously with two goals in the third period but then lost in overtime to Fort Wayne tonight.

Willie Coetzee, Toledo's leading scorer, tallied two goals. Coetzee tied it with a power play goal with 4:38 left in regulation to send it to OT.

But Jean-Michel Rizk scored 3:05 into overtime as Fort Wayne emerged with a 5-4 win.

Byron Froese and Trevor Parkes also scored for Toledo. Walleye goalie Kent Simpson finished with 25 saves.

Coetzee, who now has a team-high 23 goals, also scored in the second period.

Fort Wayne scored just 1:45 into the game. But Froese knotted it at 1.

Toledo fell behind 3-1 in the second period before scoring three of the next four goals.

Parkes, who was reassigned to Toledo on Tuesday, scored early in the third period to make it 4-3. Parkes also had an assist.

Coetzee, who also had an assist, then tied it.

But Fort Wayne then scored on its fourth shot of overtime.

Toledo earned a point but the team has now lost its last seven games that have gone to overtime.

Toledo plays at Evansville on Thursday before hosting the IceMen on Saturday.
