The Toledo Walleye have re-signed imposing defenseman Phil Oreskovic, who has played in 363 games as a professional.

Oreskovic, a 6-foot-3 and 245-pound defenseman, reached the NHL in 2008-09 when he played in 10 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The stay-at-home defenseman appeared in 68 games with the Walleye last season. He agreed to terms with the team today. Oreskovic set career highs in assists with 13 and in points with 14 with Toledo last season.

Oreskovic, 26, was drafted in the third round of the 2005 NHL Draft by the Maple Leafs.

The native of North York, Ontario, is entering his seventh pro season. He has amassed 617 penalty minutes.

“Phil is a strong, tough, physical defenseman,” Walleye coach Nick Vitucci said. “We saw last year what an outstanding hockey player he is.”

Oreskovic appeared in 10 NHL games with Toronto and collected a goal and assist with 21 penalty minutes with the Maple Leafs.

He has spent parts of six seasons playing in the American Hockey League.
