Promotions at Walleye games this season

The Walleye organization offers not just hard hitting hockey at the Huntington Center but fun, family entertainment as well.

The team is bringing back many traditional promotions this season including school appreciation day, the teddy bear toss, Pink in the Rink, and ugly sweater night.

It includes a pre-game party on opening night when Toledo hosts Wheeling at the Huntington Center on Oct. 26.

The Walleye will have themed nights along with giveaways, including bobbleheads featuring the likenesses of coach Nick Vitucci and defenseman Cody Lampl. Other giveaways include glow wands and hats.

Post-game parties with the players will be held after all 11 Friday home games. After all four Sunday games, an open skate with the Walleye players will take place.

The team will once again hold a Toledo Hockey Heritage weekend in February which will include a second annual alumni game. The throwback game will be played at 4:30 p.m. followed by the Walleye game. Fans can meet their favorite alumni during intermission of the Walleye game. A special double-header ticket will be available for fans.

The Walleye also will recognize different groups and organizations throughout the season.

Opening Night features the theme of “Let’s Hammer the Nailers.” An indoor-outdoor event will take place at 4:30 p.m. in The Aquarium, an entertainment area inside the Huntington Center. Anyone with an opening night ticket is invited. It will feature live entertainment, drink specials, and free giveaways. The first 4,000 fans will receive a blue or gold glow wand for a pregame ceremony. A magnet schedule will given out after the game. A post-game party with the players also will be held in the Lighthouse Lounge. The puck drops at 7:15 p.m.

Faceoff is at 10:30 a.m. for School Appreciation Day. The team offers a combo of fun and learning to high school, junior high, and elementary students. Any school that purchases tickets is entered to win a $1,000 grant for their school. For more info go to toledowalleye/schooldays.com

Toledo Walleye Episode V: “A New Hope Star Wars Night” will include appearances by 501st Legion characters and specialty food items. Fans are encouraged to come in their best Star Wars costumes. Both teams will wear special themed jerseys with the Walleye wearing X-Wing Pilot themed jerseys and the Kalamazoo Wings in Darth Vader jerseys. The jerseys will be auctioned off following the game with proceeds benefiting Multiple Sclerosis and The Wounded Warrior Project.

Veterans Appreciation Night

Players from the Toledo Police and Fire departments will battle in the annual “Battle of the Badges” hockey game at 4 p.m. before the Walleye game. Fans can purchase a special $13 ticket that is good for both games with a portion of that ticket benefiting Police and Fire department charities.

Also the game will feature the annual Teddy Bear Toss with fans tossing a teddy bear on the ice after the Walleye score to be donated to local charities.

It also is Union Night, Teacher Appreciation Night, and First Responder Night.

The third annual Turkey Hat Drop with thousands of hats dropping from the ceiling at the end of the first period.

The first 2,000 fans receive a Cody Lampl bobblehead (including the big beard and lamp). A hockey and hops beer tasting event also will be held. A ticket includes the gourmet beer sampling, an all-you-can eat buffet, a souvenir gift, and a Walleye ticket.

Santa Claus comes to the Huntington Center

It’s Sing for Santa Night. Students from area elementary schools will form one mass choir to perform the National Anthem and then during the first intermission they will sing holiday songs for the crowd. It's also a Scout Jamboree night.

Ugly Sweater Night. The Walleye players will take to the ice wearing ugly sweater jersey to be auctioned after the game for a local charity.

At Anger Management Night the first 2,000 fans will receive a Nick Vitucci Anger Management Bobblehead.

Fans will take home a 12-month calendar featuring their Toledo Walleye and Toledo Mud Hens. Also Polish Heritage Night.

Youth Hockey Jamboree features 24 mini-mite and mite teams together.

Team mascots Spike and CatTrick will be part of Mascot Mania Night.

The team will celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Beatles debut performance on The Ed Sullivan Show during Beatles Night.

A Postgame Boy Scout Sleepover as scouts get to have an autograph session with the players, test their hockey skills on the ice, and try to earn merit badges.

Hockey Heritage Weekend. The team will take to the ice wearing special replica Toledo Storm jerseys, which will be auctioned off following the game.

St. CatTrick’s Day with green ice and green beer. The team will don special green themed jerseys which will be auctioned off immediately following the game with proceeds benefiting local charities.

 

April

Fans can catch both the Hens and Walleye in action on the same day. The Toledo Mud Hens open the 2014 season at 4 p.m. against the Louisville Bats at Fifth Third Field. A block away at the Huntington Center, the Walleye take on Fort Wayne at 7:15 p.m.

Superhero Night with fans invited to dress in their favorite superhero costume for a chance to win prizes.
