Woeful Walleye shut out for 3rd consecutive game

WHEELING, W. Va. — Usually a shutout streak is something fun to be a part of.

Not so for the Toledo Walleye after not scoring in a third consecutive contest, a 3-0 road loss at Wheeling.

Despite putting 39 shots on the Nailers’ Mathieu Corbeil, Toledo (5-9-2) could not find the back of the net again.

The Walleye have not scored a goal since Trevor Parkes scored in the third period on Nov. 23 in a 6-2 home win over Evansville, extending the Walleye’s shutout skid at 190 minutes, 30 seconds.

The loss is Toledo’s third in a row and seventh out of the last eight contests.

The team finished 3-8-1 for the month of November after starting the season 2-1-1 in October.

Rookie goaltender Jared Coreau finished with 26 stops for Toledo.

Max Nicastro and Louis-Marc Aubry each registered five shots for the Walleye.

Toledo was 0 for 6 on the power play as Wheeling was whistled for 11 penalties.

Ben Duffy, who was shipped from the American Hockey League’s Hamilton Bulldogs this past week, scored twice for the Atlantic Division-leader Nailers (11-5-2) in his second game with the team.

Anton Zlobin scored the first goal of the game while former Walleye forward Zack Torquato registered two assists for Wheeling.
