Walleye goalie Nagle takes part in ECHL all-star game

INDIANAPOLIS — The Mountain Division won the ECHL all-star game Monday, beating the South Division all-stars 6-5 in a shootout in the championship game.

The all-star classic featured four teams, representing each of the ECHL’s divisions. In a format similar to the one adapted by the NHL, the four teams competed in a 3-on-3 tournament in order to determine a winner.

Goaltender Pat Nagle represented the Toledo Walleye and started in net for the Central. Nagle, who is 18-3-2 and leads the ECHL in wins, made 14 saves as the Mountain beat the Central 5-2 in the opening round.

Five different Mountain players tallied goals in the victory, and Wichita goaltender Shane Starrett turned aside 16 shots.

In the second semifinal, South Carolina’s Taylor Cammarata scored two goals and Martin Ouellette of the Florida Everblades stopped 11 of the 12 North Division shots to lead the South Division to a 3-1 win.

In the championship game, Utah’s Cliff Watson scored the shootout winner for the Mountain Division.

Cammarata earned Most Valuable Player honors, totaling five goals and two assists in the two games.

The Walleye will host the 2019 ECHL all-star game in January, 2019.
