Cars slide off roads because of snowfall

3/6/2001

Icy roads late yesterday made driving difficult after light snow fell throughout the Toledo area and southeast Michigan.

Area police agencies reported numerous accidents and cars sliding off roadways beginning about 5:30 p.m. In many instances motorists were driving too fast for the conditions, police said. No serious injuries were reported.

Hazardous road conditions extended well into Michigan during the evening rush hour. "We had a time where we had more accidents than officers," said Michigan State Police Sgt. Greg Sebring said in Adrian.

Forecasters are predicting a cold, blustery day today, with little additional snow accumulation. One to two inches of snow were forecast for last night. The high today is expected to reach 30 degrees, with winds from the northwest at 20 to 30 mph.
