Wintry blast due to arrive from Canada

If you see a flake or flurry tonight, if your tender shoots freeze, blame a Canadian cold front and the jet stream.

Temperatures tonight could dip to 29 in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan, forecasters say, with a chance of a few flurries.

"There's a pretty big dip in the jet stream coming down out of Canada, a straight shot out of the north of cold air building up over several days," said Dave Houk, a meteorologist at AccuWeather Inc., a State College, Pa., forecasting service.

He sees a greater likelihood of a freeze than flurries.

The earliest October snow in Toledo was 0.4 of an inch Oct 10, 1906. The most snow was 2 inches on Oct. 19, 1989. Trace amounts were recorded in Septembers of 1942 and 1967, the National Weather Service said.

In contrast to yesterday's high of 69, the cold air will limit the high today to about 46.
