Warmer temperatures erase wintry ice blasts

2/26/2007

Freezing rain in the Toledo area turned some roadways into ribbons of ice early yesterday.

But by late morning, emergency warnings, including a winter ice storm warning issued Saturday night by the National Weather Service, had been dropped as temperatures warmed in the region and travel conditions improved.

Some churches canceled services early yesterday morning. Area residents had to scrape ice off windshields and windows on vehicles parked outside, and many sidewalks were coated with ice.

Both Toledo Express Airport and Detroit-Wayne County Metropolitan Airport reported some flight delays and cancellations. No major power outages or vehicular crashes were reported.

A chance of snow showers is predicted today, and it s possible that the Toledo area could receive up to an inch of snow, Chuck Caracozza, a meteorologist with AccuWeather, a private forecasting service based in State College, Pa., said last night. Warmer weather is on tap later in the week, with a high of 46 degrees on Friday.
