Summer takes a bow as fall waits in wings

9/25/2007

On the first full day of autumn, summer came back to the Toledo area for an encore yesterday, though it didn't quite make the record book.

A high temperature of 93 degrees was reported at Metcalf Field in Lake Township yesterday afternoon, one degree higher than the record for the date set way back in 1891.

But because the official reporting station for the city is Toledo Express Airport, the 1891 mark will stand because yesterday's high at the airport was just 91.

Forecasters expected continuing summer-like conditions overnight and today: a warm, muggy night, followed by an upper 80s high today with a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Stormy weather was expected to continue into tomorrow as cooler weather moves in from the west.
