NWS issues wind advisory

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for northwest Ohio in effect until 8 this evening.

Low pressure over the central Great Lakes will move northeast into Canada this morning. A strong cold front trailing this low will sweep east across the area this morning. Strong and gusty winds are expected along and behind this front.

South winds will gust to as much as 40 mph ahead of the front. Behind the front, winds will become westerly and increase. Sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts greater than 45 mph can be expected once the front moves through.

Winds speeds will begin to gradually diminish later in the day as the storm system moves well northeast of the area.

• Today: Mostly cloudy and very windy. A chance of showers this morning. Early highs in the mid 50s...then temperatures falling into the mid 40s this afternoon. West winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Chance of rain 50 percent.

• Tonight: Mostly cloudy in the evening...then becoming partly cloudy. Windy with lows in the upper 20s. Northwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph...decreasing to 10 to 15 mph after midnight.

• Wednesday: Mostly sunny in the morning...then becoming partly cloudy. Cooler with highs in the mid 40s. North winds 5 to 10 mph... Becoming northeast in the afternoon.

• Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy in the evening...then becoming mostly cloudy. Cold with lows in the upper 20s. East winds 5 to 10 mph.

• Thursday: Mostly cloudy. A chance of rain showers in the afternoon. Highs in the upper 40s. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 30 percent.

• Thursday Night: Showers likely. Lows in the upper 30s. Chance of rain 70 percent.

• Friday: Rain likely. Highs in the upper 40s. Chance of rain 70 percent.

• Friday Night: Mostly cloudy. Lows in the mid 30s.

• Saturday: Partly cloudy. Highs in the upper 40s.

• Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy. Lows in the mid 30s.
