Toledo area breaks weather record

Warm air working into the Toledo area today proved to be stronger than predicted, leading to a record high temperature for the date at Toledo Express Airport.

The 92-degree high at 4:35 p.m. broke the 89-degree mark set in 1904 and tied in 1914, the National Weather Service office in Cleveland said.

Forecasts had called for a mid-80s high in Toledo on Friday, but a weather front that was expected to keep clouds over the region, and maybe even drop a thundershower or two, during the morning shifted away.

Weather-service forecasters predicted a mid-80s high for Saturday in Toledo, with a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening, before the likely return of low-90s highs on Sunday and Monday. The record highs for the rest of the weekend are 93 for Saturday, 92 on Sunday, and 95 on Monday, all set in 1911.
