Toledo’s heat today has broken the record for the date.

The temperature at Toledo Express Airport reached 102 degrees at 3:59 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. That broke the June 28 record of 101, set in 1934.

As of 5 p.m., the local reading was at 101.

It is the first 100-degree plus day this year, and only the second in Toledo since 1995.

Triple-digit temperatures have been reported throughout the region as a heat wave that has baked the Great Plains for several days moved into the Great Lakes area.

Slightly cooler temperatures, in the mid-90s, are forecast for Friday.
