3 Washington Local schools getting security cameras

4/27/2006

The Washington Local Schools board of education has approved a contract to install security cameras at three elementary buildings to ward off thefts.

The school district will pay $49,8723 to Guardian Alarm to install cameras at the schools - Greenwood Elementary, 760 Northlawn Dr.; Jackman Elementary, 2010 Northover Rd.; and Meadowvale, 2755 Edgebrook Dr.

Televisions and VCRs have been stolen and teachers' desks have been rifled during school break-ins, said David Hunter, school board president.

"We're trying to protect against that and get [the cameras] in before the end of the year," Mr. Hunter said. The cameras will be able to record activity around the clock, he said.

The school board also approved hiring Stough and Stough Architects of Sylvania to assess how much it would cost to move bleachers back and expand the track at Whitmer Stadium.

If such improvements are made, they would be paid for with donations, Mr. Hunter said. Stough and Stough will be paid a fee not to exceed $2,500 to conduct the assessment.
