Hillsdale County seeks funds to repair bridge

10/11/2006

HILLSDALE - The Hillsdale County Road Commission is asking the Michigan Department of Transportation for emergency funds to repair the culvert bridge over Beebe Creek on Moore Road, between M-99 and North Hillsdale Road, just north of the Hillsdale city limits.

The bridge was closed late last week.

Road commission engineer Stan Clingerman said the state turned down an application for assistance earlier this year. The estimated cost of the project is $500,000.

Mr. Clingerman said he blames high water and beaver dams for the deterioration of the bridge. That section of Moore is popular as a shortcut to Hillsdale and Jonesville.

Repairs are not expected to be done until next summer, Mr. Clingerman said.
