Scholarships
10/18/2006Megan Haubert of Sylvania is one of five winners of the University of Michigan Class of 1931 Engineering Scholarships, which had 155 applicants. The scholarship is valued at $10,000-$15,000 per year and is renewable for four years.
The winners will be honored Oct. 27 at the 75th annual reunion dinner of the Class of 1931E at the Four Points Sheraton Inn, Ann Arbor.

The following area students have been awarded academic scholarships by Monroe County Community College:
Amy Miller of Blissfield received a $1,500 William J. and Hildeth C. Braunlich scholarship; she plans to study for an associate of science degree.
Samira Asmaro and Mary Platt of Monroe each received a $1,200 Helen M. and Eugene W. Beach scholarship. Samira is a student in respiratory therapy, and Mary is studying nursing.
Sandra Smith of Temperance received a $500 Karen Karau-Collins Memorial scholarship toward a career as a microcomputer specialist.
Nicole Leach of Toledo and Chelsea Warren of Monroe each received a $500 Education Plus Credit Union scholarship. Nicole plans to study pre-secondary education. Chelsea will pursue a degree in early-childhood development.
The Fallen Firefighters scholarship of $500 was awarded to Monroe residents Cora Hicks, Kacie Kansier, Robert Reed, and Lance Tedora. The scholarship established by the Monroe County Firefighters assists firefighters of Monroe County and their dependents.

Kaeleigh Sheenan of Toledo, a 2006 graduate of Notre Dame Academy, was awarded a Founders Scholarship by Denison University in Granville, Ohio. The scholarship is approximately half-tuition and is renewable while the student is enrolled at Denison.
Selection is based on standardized test scores, academic record, an essay and recommendation, extracurricular activities, and leadership potential.
