LYONS - Last week's rains appeared to be too heavy to be carried away by the crumbling clay drainage tiles that were installed in this village decades ago, but there doesn't appear to be an easy fix.

According to discussion at village council Monday, it would take an estimated $75,000 to replace the tile in two village blocks. But there are dozens of village blocks with the old tile and no fund set up to cover such costs, said Vicki Smith, village administrator.

Also Monday, council unanimously approved 3 percent pay raises for its three full-time employees and one part-time employee.

Wauseon, Fayette, and Metamora also are considering 3 percent raises for next year. Fulton County commissioners have approved a 3 percent raise for county employees, but health-insurance changes will overshadow the raise.
