Springfield's four elementary schools - Crissey, Dorr, Holland, and Holloway - are gearing up to welcome new students into the 2007-08 kindergarten classes. Beginning today, parents can pick up new student registration packets at each of the schools and at the school district's administration office.

To accommodate both the informational needs and the schedules of area families, the district has organized several events.

March 16 has been designated as Visit Schools Day. Parents and their children may visit Crissey Elementary School from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Dorr Elementary School from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Holland Elementary School from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Holloway Elementary School from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Parent Information Night has been scheduled for March 29. Parents are invited to arrive before 6:30 p.m. at the Holloway Elementary School Media Center, 6611 Pilliod Rd., to listen as educators discuss techniques to prepare children for school; Springfield's K-12 curriculum with an emphasis on kindergarten, and the kindergarten registration-screening process. Parents also are encouraged to ask questions during the event, said Kristina White, community liaison for Springfield Schools.

On April 19 and 20, kindergarten registration and screening will be conducted.

This year, the Springfield Township Hall, 7617 Angola Rd., will provide a central location for families with 2007-08 kindergarten students to complete the registration and screening process.

School officials say new kindergarten students must attend one of the sessions.

To accommodate the number of students expected during the event, organizers have designated each of the two days for two specific schools' entering students, but parents who have scheduling conflicts may attend either day.

Registration-screening is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 19 for kindergarten students who will attend Crissey or Holloway schools, and from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 20 for kindergarten students who will attend Dorr or Holland schools.

Parents or guardians should bring with them their child's birth certificate, immunization records, Social Security card, and proof of residency, as well as custody papers if applicable and their own driver's licenses or other identification.
