Skateboard park issue takes a step in Sylvania
1/30/2008The move to get a skateboard park built in the Sylvania area took a step forward last week as city officials and board members of the Sylvania Area Joint Recreation District listened to a presentation from a California developer who has built more than 400 of them.
Aaron Spohn said young people enjoy the activity and will sometimes interfere with pedestrians and businesses as they try to perfect their latest maneuvers. He said the solution is to provide a safe, central place that is challenging enough to hold the interest of skateboarders of varying skill levels.
His presentation was made for the recreation district, which has included the construction of a skateboard park along with a list of improvements it intends to make at existing facilities if voters pass a 0.42-mill bond levy in the March election.
George France, chairman of the board of the recreation district, said construction of the park hinges on passage of the levy. He said there is no deadline for construction of a skate park nor has a site been determined.
