Sylvania to celebrate the fourth on the third

6/18/2008

Sylvania will mark Independence Day with a "Star Spangled Celebration," from 7 p.m. to midnight July 3 at Centennial Terrace, 5773 Centennial Rd.

Entertainment will include live music from classic rock band, "Bonkers," dancing, clowns, rides and activities for children.

Fireworks will begin at 10 p.m. The display can also be viewed from Sylvania Pacesetter Park, 8801 Sylvania-Metamora Road.

Ken Katafias, operations manager for Sylvania Recreation, said the fireworks display will be about on par with previous years. "It's a nice, little family event," he said.

The 25-minute program is sponsored by the city, the township and Coca-Cola at a cost of about $27,000.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12. Parking will be $5 per car. Small carnival rides will be free to children. Families are encouraged to bring their own blankets or lawn chairs.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Centennial Terrace restoration effort.
