ARCHBOLD - The Archbold Community Library board voted unanimously last week to seek support for a new 0.3-mill tax as well as a 0.4 mill renewal in May.

Director Joyce Klingelsmith said the troubled economy has forced the library to look to the community for additional support.

The Archbold library gets about 75 percent of its funding from the state, but library funding has been affected by a decrease in sales tax collections statewide, she said. Over the past nine years, state contributions have declined from $276,863 to $272,000, she said.

The levy would generate $139,843 annually for the library. It would cost the owner of a $100,000 home about $70 per year, said Annie Hernandez, a financial coordinator with the Fulton County Auditor's Office.
