Second challenger enters race for post as Sylvania Township trustee

A second challenger has entered the race for Sylvania Township trustee in the Nov. 3 general election.

Penny Levine, 53, who has lived in Sylvania Township for 14 years and lived in a neighboring part of Toledo before that, said she has collected sufficient petition signatures to qualify for the ballot. She is an office manager for a cosmetic surgeon

Mrs. Levine has never run for public office. She said that if she is elected, she will make "fiscal responsibility through transparency" a priority as a trustee.

"Communicating and addressing the needs of our township citizens, its employees, and creating a healthy relationship between the township and Sylvania city government are essential to the future and welfare of all Sylvania residents," she said in her announcement.

Mrs. Levine is a member of the Lucas County Storm Water Advisory Committee, which was organized to seek solutions to flooding problems along Ten Mile Creek in the township.

Mrs. Levine and her husband, Ritchie, have two adult children and three grandchildren.

Two of the three trustee seats, currently held by Pam Hanley and DeeDee Liedel, are up for election in November.

Dennis Boyle, a township trustee who was unseated four years ago when Mrs. Hanley and Mrs. Liedel won their seats, announced his candidacy for the township board last month.

The candidate filing deadline for the township elections is Aug. 20.
