Sylvania Southview High School s sixth annual Dance for a Chance charity dance-a-thon will benefit foundations helping three Sylvania residents with disabilities or debilitating diseases, organizers announced.

Under the theme Disability Does Not Define Identity, the 2009 Dance for a Chance will raise money for Sal s Pals, the Suz Foundation, and Hal s Hope.

Sal s Pals raises money for cystic fibrosis research and is dedicated to a local man with that disease. The Suz Foundation benefits Suzan Hagmeyer, a Timberstone student who suffers from infantile hypophosphatasia, a disease that attacks bone marrow. Hal s Hope benefits a Southview graduate with severe disabilities.

This year s Dance for a Chance is scheduled for March 28.

Over its first five years, participating students and faculty have raised more than $52,000 for charitable causes. Participants dance in the Southview commons area and gymnasium for at least 12 consecutive hours and must raise at least $65 in pledges beforehand.

Organizers seek donations of refreshments, prizes, or cash to support the event, with several levels of sponsorship available. Interested people or businesses should contact Steve Swaggerty, a history teacher at Southview, by March 2, at 419-320-1724 or sy.steven.swaggerty@nwoca.org.
