•Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce annual arts and crafts festival takes place from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 13 at Lourdes College, 6832 Convent Blvd. The festival features 180 juried arts and craft artisans, regional entertainment, a concession area and an expanded children's area. Free parking and a continuous shuttle is available at Northview High School parking lot, Harroun Park and other areas surrounding Lourdes College.
•American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will conduct one of its Out Of The Darkness community walks on Sept. 20 at Olander Park to raise funds for research and education. Registration is at 9 a.m. and the walk is at 10. •Music on the Lawn will be featured Sept. 22 at Mayberry Square, near the corner of Centennial and Erie roads. Each Mayberry Jam features the band Flyte '66 playing rock-and-roll and country music. Tickets are $2 for adults; admission is free for children 12 and younger. Proceeds will benefit a local charity.
•Origins of Life will be shown at the Appold Planetarium at Lourdes College at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 12 and 19 and Oct. 10, 17, and 24. Starting with the Big Bang theory, Origins of Life covers the pre-biotic chemistry in the universe, the formation of stars, solar systems, and the first life on Earth. •Learn how the rules of behavior and etiquette have changed over the years. Join the Sylvania Area Historical Society at 7 p.m. Sept. 16 at the center, 5717 North Main St., when historian Glenna Jo Christen will share a look into the roles of social order and power dictating how to behave. Learn who set the rules, why there are regional differences, and what early standards of etiquette remain to this day. The meeting is free and open to the public.

•34th annual Miss Northwestern Ohio Scholarship Pageant, a preliminary to the Miss Ohio and Miss America scholarship pageants, will be Nov. 14 in the Defiance Community Auditorium. The pageant committee is seeking female contestants between the ages of 17 and 24, who are single, never been married, or pregnant, and live, work, or go to school in Ohio. The areas of competition are talent, interview, swimsuit, and evening wear. There are no entry fees. The program is affiliated with the Children's Miracle Network, and each contestant will be asked to obtain sponsors to contribute a combined $100 to the Children's Miracle Network.
