Sylvania

t Origins of Life will be shown at the Appold Planetarium at Lourdes College at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 10, 17, and 24. Starting with the Big Bang theory, Origins of Life covers the pre-biotic chemistry in the universe, the formation of stars, solar systems, and the first life on Earth. tDowntown Sylvania will host the Sylvania Market from 3-7 p.m. Thursdays to Oct. 15 at the Historical Village, 5717 North Main St. Seasonal fall items will be for sale from area farmers and orchards. Gust Brothers Farm will have pumpkins, gourds, squash, corn stalks, straw bales, Indian corn, and honey for sale. Bennett Orchard will have its homemade cider, apples, pears, mums, and Amish jams and jellies, apple butter, and homemade soy candles for sale. Bunnies from the Bunny Barn and kittens will be there for petting.

West Toledo

tPolish American Community of Toledo will present a showing of Katyn, the award winning documentary film at 4 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Maumee Indoor Theater, 601 Conant St., Maumee. This film documents the massacre of more than 20,000 Polish military officers during WWII. Because of its nature, the film is recommended for mature audiences. •34th annual Miss Northwestern Ohio Scholarship Pageant, a preliminary to the Miss Ohio and Miss America scholarship pageants, will be Nov. 14 in the Defiance Community Auditorium. The pageant committee is seeking female contestants between the ages of 17 and 24, who are single, never been married, or pregnant, and live, work, or go to school in Ohio. The areas of competition are talent, interview, swimsuit, and evening wear. There are no entry fees. The program is affiliated with the Children's Miracle Network, and each contestant will be asked to obtain sponsors to contribute a combined $100 to the Children's Miracle Network.
