Sylvania fund drive again benefits water-well effort

For a second consecutive year, the McCord Junior High School Student Council has made the Miracle Foundation, which digs drinking-water wells in impoverished areas of India, the beneficiary of its annual "outreach" fund-raiser.

Collection jugs have been put in classrooms throughout the school for this week. Students are urged to give leftover lunch money, if not larger cash donations or checks, Geeta Rao, the student council's liaison, said.

Last year, the student council raised almost $3,225 for the Miracle Foundation, which paid for the drilling of one water well in India.

"We have been keeping in touch with the director of the Miracle Foundation, and have received feedback and pictures of the well in India and the orphans who benefited from our donation," Geeta said. "We are very excited to be helping these children again."

The "outreach" fund-raiser is this year's student council beneficiary. Various charitable organizations have been aided.
