The Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce will offer free energy assessments to local business operators and give advice on how to reduce utility bills during a seminar next week at its offices.

Participants must bring copies of their most recent electricity and gas bills to the event, during which representatives of TDC Energy and GEM Energy Management will review them and offer free recommendations for energy suppliers that may offer favorable rates, terms, and conditions.

The event, scheduled to run from 8 a.m. to noon on Oct. 5, is the second such energy-procurement fair offered by the chamber, and is open to all businesses in Sylvania and Sylvania Township, even those that are not chamber members. It will be held in the chamber's offices at 5632 North Main St., Sylvania.

"I think this is a tremendous service that the chamber offers," said John Walsh, of Regency Hospital, which reduced the utility bills at its Sylvania Township facility by 15 percent after participating in the first seminar. "I would encourage all local businesses to have an assessment to discover the cost savings that will help decrease their energy costs on their business's bottom line."

While participation is free, advance registration is encouraged. Reservations may be made by calling the chamber of commerce at 419-882-2135 or via e-mail at admin@sylvaniachamber.org.
