Sylvania sets final pickups citywide of green yard waste

10/26/2010

Sylvania will conduct its final citywide "green yard waste" pickups during the second and third weeks of November before switching to its winter schedule, city officials announced.

Residents discarding yard waste for these pickups will not be required to purchase green-waste bags but must follow city standards to ensure material is picked up.

Pickups along "Schedule A" routes will be made during the week of Nov. 8; pickups for "Schedule B" routes will occur the week of Nov. 15. Material for these pickups may be placed in an uncovered garbage can or other suitable container, including paper grocery bags or cardboard boxes.

Material in plastic bags will not be collected. Branches should be cut into 4-foot lengths and tied with string into bundles of diameters up to 24 inches.

Bundles or containers should not weigh more than 60 pounds.

From December through March, the city will collect yard waste only by appointment during the second full week of each month. Appointments must be made the week before pickup, and use of the green-waste bags sold by the city is required.
