Honor Flight to host event at Toledo Express
4/6/2011Honor Flight Northwest Ohio, which arranges for World War II veterans to travel to the World War II Memorial in Washington, is planning a Stage Door Canteen event next month at Toledo Express Airport for local veterans.
Wartime Stage Door Canteens offered servicemen nights of dancing, entertainment, food, nonalcoholic drinks, and opportunities to meet celebrities.
Honor Flight is seeking both volunteers and sponsors-donors to support its event. Funds not used to stage the Stage Door Canteen will be used to sponsor veterans' future Washington trips.
The event is to be held at the 180th Fighter Wing base on May 21 from 2 to 8 p.m. Reservations are required. They may be made by contacting Honor Flight at hfnwo@bex.net or by calling Marti at 419-382-3569. Tickets are nontransferable.
