Having promoted from within with the recent hiring of a new police chief, Sylvania Township is seeking outside applicants for the deputy chief's position.

Candidates must have a current Ohio Peace Officer certificate and at least 10 years of law enforcement experience, of which five must be in an administrative command position. A college bachelor's degree is preferred. The salary range for the position is $70,000 to $80,000, depending on qualifications.

The deputy chief reports directly to Chief Rob Boehme and assists in overseeing the department's 42 patrol officers and commanders and 16 support staff.

Mr. Boehme said the department most likely would choose somebody from northwest Ohio or southeast Michigan.

"We're going to get the best person for the job," he said.

Applications, including a resume, cover letter, and three references should be submitted by mail or delivered in person to Township Administrator John Zeitler by May 27. The township office is at 4927 Holland-Sylvania Rd.
