Franciscan sisters to honor 2 for service to community

    Sylvania Mayor Craig Stough and Ottawa Lake resident Gayle Lampkowski have been named recipients of the 2011 St. Francis Award and St. Clare Award, respectively, presented by the Sisters of St. Francis.

    Honorees are chosen for their contributions to society and the way they reflect Franciscan values in their everyday lives. Mayor Stough and Ms. Lampkowski are to be recognized during a Mass at 5 p.m. Saturday in Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel in the Sylvania Franciscan Village prior to a reception at the Franciscan Center.

    Mr. Stough has been mayor since 1996 and was a member of City Council for 10 years before that. A professional architect, he has demonstrated his respect and support for the Sisters of St. Francis by fostering years of cooperation between the city and the congregation. He has used his professional expertise for the betterment of Sylvania and area organizations, and has served on the boards of Lourdes University, the Franciscan Center, the Sylvania Historical Commission, the Sylvania Community Arts Commission, and the Ability Center of Toledo. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects and was AIA Toledo's Architect of the Year in 1997. The same group gave him the Ohio Public Service Award in 2006.

    Ms. Lampkowski has been the chief financial officer for the Sisters of St. Francis since 1992 and has become an important part of their community.

    She received a degree in accounting from Indiana University and was employed by Ernst and Young for 13 years, specializing in governmental and nonprofit organizations. As CFO, she oversees campus operations and works closely with Lourdes in facility and grounds management. She is a member of Toledo Classic Inc., sponsor of the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic LPGA Tournament; the Lourdes University Assets Committee; the board of the Religious Communities Trust; and the Corpus Christi University Parish Finance Committee.
