6 Start graduates, teacher named to its hall of fame
Honorees excelled in their chosen fields
3/7/2012The Roy C. Start High School Hall of Fame Association will induct six graduates and a former teacher at a Toledo Club dinner Friday.
The inductees are:
Cynthia Kallile, a 1974 graduate who owns the Meatloaf Bakery in Chicago. Her business specializes in creative ways to serve meatloaf, including classic mother loaf, chicken shish-ka loaf, yentl lentl loaf, loaf-a-roma, a wing-and-a-prayer loaf, no buns about it loaf, and el loafo del fuego. She has appeared on the Food Network, the Today Show, and the Cooking Channel.
Susan Farrell Palmer, a 1966 graduate, taught French at Whitmer High School for six years. She has been active with the University of Toledo, the Toledo Museum of Art, WGTE Channel 30, and the Pastoral Council at Corpus Christi University Parish.
The late Robin Johnston Cockerill, class of 1987, was active in music and theater. After graduation, she served in the Washington Township Fire Department, was employed by Promedica, and was communications supervisor for Vanderbilt LifeFlight in Nashville. She died in 2010.
The late Phyllis Nathanson taught English at Start from 1972 to 1982, after teaching at Scott High School. She died in 2006.
Thomas Pappas, class of 1983, is a cardiologist with Northwest Ohio Cardiology Consultants who specializes in complex cardiac catheterizations and transesophageal echocardiography.
Dan Peffley, class of 1990, is a managing associate of MassMutual. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Toledo and Herzing University.
Nancy Wright, class of 1972, has written seven novels, five humorous series, two urban fantasies, and more than a dozen plays under the pseudonym Nina Wright. She has also performed on stage. -- Carl Ryan
